Reports: Mark Mitchell enters transfer portal, weighing eligibility options

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Former Mizzou men's basketball star Mark Mitchell is considering whether or not he should return to college, according to reports from multiple publications.

On Friday, ESPN insider Jeff Borzello said that the Kansas City, Kansas native was one of a couple of former college hoops considering another year of eligibility. That comes after Mitchell played in NBA Summer League action for the Denver Nuggets, having signed an Exhibit-10 deal with the club after the draft.

Just hours after that initial report came out, 247Sports and On3 put out that Mitchell's agent, Brandon Mitchell, told the outlet that he is now entering the transfer portal. There has been no official confirmation on the former Tiger forward's end.

Mitchell's reported portal entry comes as head coach Dennis Gates and company have a full roster for the 2026-27 campaign.

In his final season in the black and gold, the forward put up big numbers. As a Second Team All-SEC selection, Mitchell started in all 33 games and led MU with 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

The news all comes after Judge Charlotte Sweeny, of the U.S. District Court of Colorado, granted a class-wide preliminary injunction that requires the NCAA to declare all athletes eligible who were a part of the high school class of 2022 and exhausted their eligibility this past spring. That ruling would also apply to Mitchell, as he graduated in the 2021-22 school year.

Judge Sweeny's ruling became possible due to the NCAA's new Age-Based Eligibility model, which grants student-athletes five years of eligibility to use over the course of five years.
