Pair of Tigers selected on first day of MLB Draft

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two Mizzou baseball players had their big league dreams turned into reality.

The first day of the MLB draft saw right-handed pitcher Josh McDevitt and Kam Durnin both make it to the pros in the fourth round. McDevitt was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 116th pick, and Durnin went just five picks later to the Houston Astros at No. 121.

The pair's selection in the fourth round was just the sixth time in prgram history that two Tigers were selected within the first four rounds, becoming the 32nd and 33rd draft selections in the history of the program, and the highest drafted players for Mizzou since Kameron Misner and TJ Sikkema both went in the first round in 2019.

McDevitt spent the first two years in Columbia coming out of the bullpen, but took a jump after transitioning into the Friday night starter during his junior campaign. The righty threw a team-high 79.1 innings with a 4.42 ERA and 102 strikeouts.

Camdenton alum Kam Durnin led the Mizzou offense in batting average (.329), while being tied for first in doubles (9) and finishing second in home runs (9). Despite missing the first dozen games with an injury, he still finished second on the team in RBI's, and was the still the team steals leading, swiping 11 bags.

The MLB Draft will continue with rounds 5-20 on Sunday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m.
