Mizzou baseball upsets No. 17 Ole Miss; advances to second round of SEC Tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Head coach Kerrick Jackson and the Tigers picked up their first win at the conference tournament since 2017 after taking down ninth-seeded Ole Miss, 10-8.

The Rebels came into the day ranked 17th in the country, and were the first team on the board in the 2026 SEC tournament, hitting two home runs in as many innings. In the top of the third though, Kam Durnin was able to tie the swing with a long ball of his own to score two for the Tigers.

After a scoreless fourth, Mizzou kept the runs coming across with a Mateo Serna RBI single. Ole Miss then loaded the bases on a walk for the Tigers, and Kaden Peer capitalized, launching a grand slam to left center field and taking a 7-2 lead.

Ole miss managed to put together a big fifth inning as well, bringing four runs across and getting the deficit back down to one. But in the sixth, Jase Woita notched his 13th homer of the season to buy the Tigers a little more time in the drivers seat.

Following a lead off walk, Hayden Federico brought the Rebels level on a two run shot in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game at eight. But following the homer, Eli Skidmore entered the game to finish the game on the mound, and pitched a gem to keep Ole Miss off the board the rest of the way.

The stellar defense in the final three innings bought the offense enough time to get the lead back, with Blaize Ward and Mateo Serna both bringing in another run, and securing the team's first win in Hoover in almost a decade.

Up Next - Mizzou will face eighth-seeded Mississippi State in the second round of the SEC tournament. First pitch against the Bulldogs is currently scheduled for 9:30 a.m. CT.
