Former Mizzou hooper takes assistant coaching job at Cleveland State

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

After spending one season playing at Mizzou and two serving as a graduate assistant under Tiger men's basketball coach Dennis Gates, Tre Gomillion has earned his first shot in the coaching ranks.

On Tuesday, Cleveland State announced that the former Tiger guard will join the program as an assistant coach. It's a place that Gomillion is very familiar with, as he played three season for the Vikings, when Gates was the head coach. Now, as he rejoins his older program, he will serve under former MU assistant coach Rob Summers.

Gomillion has called Columbia, Missouri home for the past few years, after transferring in ahead of Coach Gates' first season at the helm at Mizzou. In that debut season, he helped lead the Tigers to an NCAA Tournament berth and the program's first NCAA Tournament win in 13 years.

Through 24 games, as battled some injury in that 2022-23 campaign, Gomillion averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. However, even when he wasn't producing on the court, Coach Gates always pointed to his presence on the sidelines. The leader of Tiger men's hoops continually said that Gomillion will be a coach one day.
