Mizzou baseball gets swept by No. 5 Georgia in second-straight run-rule loss

ATHENS, Ga. (KMIZ)
For the fifth time in the 2026 campaign, the Mizzou baseball team got swept by a Southeastern Conference foe. On Sunday, No. 5 Georgia's 14-4 win over the Tigers in seven innings sealed the deal on three-straight losses in Athens.
Over the course of those outings, head coach Kerrick Jackson and company lost by a combined 24 runs, only plating seven on the weekend. With the losses, MU moved to 21-26 overall and 4-20 in league play.
Sunday's loss was the second-straight in run-rule fashion, as the Bulldogs shelled the Tiger pitching staff.
Starter Keyler Gonzalez got charged with the loss, after throwing for 2.1 innings and allowing six runs on seven hits. The scoring started early for the Bulldogs, as a two-run home run in the second inning helped them jump out to a two-run lead out of the gates. However, the wheels really came off for the MU pitching staff in the third inning.
Gonzalez returned to the bump for the start of that third frame, but quickly let up and RBI double and a three-run homer to give No. 5 Georgia six-run lead. After that, he was replaced by Ian Lohse, who didn't fair much better, as the Bulldogs assembled a damaging, seven-run frame with another three-run home run.
Mizzou got a couple of those runs back in the top of the fourth, thanks to a home run from Camdenton alum Kam Durnin and an RBI single off the bat of Donovan Jordan. However, their bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding, as UGA posted four runs in the home half of the fourth inning, highlighted by their fourth home run of the afternoon.
The Tigers put five pitchers on the mound in an effort to slow down the Bulldogs, but the bullpen found no answers. In fact, Kadden Drew was the only one to not allow a run, as he closed out the action for the Tigers.
All-in-all, Tiger baseball got out-hit 13-7 and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Up next - Mizzou's midweek matchup against No. 19 Arizona State has already been canceled due to impending weather, so the Tigers have most of the week to get ready for Vanderbilt. The three-game series will get going on Friday at 6 p.m. at Taylor Stadium.
