Mizzou baseball gets shelled by SIUE to extend losing streak to seven

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Despite getting out to a three-run lead in the early stages of Tuesday's game against SIUE, the Mizzou baseball team couldn't hang on for a midweek win. The Tigers lost to the Cougars 11-5 to move to 20-21 overall in 2026.

With the loss, the Tigers extended their losing streak to seven games.

Head coach Kerrick Jackson's team actually took control of the game out of the gates, thanks to a leadoff home run from true freshman Blaize Ward in the first inning. The Tigers then proceeded to score in two of the next three frames, with a Juliomar Campos RBI double and an Eric Maisonet RBI single to make it a 3-0 ball game.

However, the momentum shifted in the sixth inning, when SIUE put up a three-run frame to tie the game. With Sam Rosand on the hill, the Cougars kicked off the frame with a leadoff homer off the bat of Gage Franck. After that, Coach Jackson decided to make a pitching change and put in left-hander Drew Kadden, who gave up the second home run of the inning - a two run shot - against the second batter he faced.

The Tigers did manage to grab the lead back in the seventh inning, as Camdenton alum Kam Durnin got a Maisonet home on a sacrifice fly to left field to make it a 4-3 ball game.

But, disaster hit for Mizzou in the eighth, when SIUE assembled an eight-run frame. There were three Tiger pitching changes in that inning, alone, as the Cougars' effort was highlighted by a pair of home runs.

All-in-all, Coach Jackson's team blew through seven pitchers in Tuesday's loss. It's an unfortunate result for starter Dane Bjorn, who actually had a solid outing through 3.0 innings of work. He struck out three batters and allowed just a pair of hits and no runs.

Up next - Mizzou will remain home to host No. 24 Arkansas for a three-game series at Taylor Stadium. First pitch in the series opener is set for Thursday at 7 p.m.
