Mizzou softball falls in road series against No. 14 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. (KMIZ)

The Tigers weren't able to find their first ranked series win of the year in their trip to Athens.

After managing to level the series on Saturday, the Bulldogs bounced back and took a second shutout victory of the season. With the loss, Mizzou fell back to the .500 mark, now sitting at 22-22 on the season, and 6-9 in conference.

Both sides were held scoreless through the first inning, but Georgia managed to be the first team onto the board with an RBI single. Addy Waits struck for the Tigers quickly after crushing a double into right field. But her attempt at a triple was thwarted when Sarah Gordan made a perfect through to get Waits going for third.

The Bulldogs quickly added some insurance with a sacrifice fly in the third, and followed up the offense with a pair of homers coming in the fourth and fifth. The four straight innings scoring just a single run added up quickly, as the Tigers could never find enough to answer back, falling 4-0 in the rubber match.

Waits was one of four Mizzou players that recorded a hit in the game, and the only one with an extra base hit. The win on Saturday marked the sixth ranked win for head coach Larissa Anderson and company despite having not taken down a ranked opponent in a series.

Up Next - Mizzou will head to Lawrence, Kan. to take on the Jayhawks in the Boarder War. First pitch for the game is slated for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15.
