Mizzou drops pitchers duel against South Carolina

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Gamecocks managed to top the Tigers in game two of the weekend series, 1-0.

Pitchers rules Friday's contest, as both sides only combined for eight hits and just a single run. Mizzou's Brady Kehlenbrink was in command for head coach Kerrick Jackson's squad, and lit up South Carolina the first time through the order.

Kehlenbrink and the Gamecocks' Amp Phillips were both perfect through the first three innings, but the visitors were the first to break the streak.

In the top of the fourth, Tyler Bak hit a deep triple that landed barely inside fair territory. Just a few batters later he was brought when a throw from Kam Durnin to Jase Woita at first barely lifted him off of the bag, allowing Bak to score the lone run of the game.

Mizzou managed to retire the following nine batters in a row after allowing the score, while adding a few hits of their own. While no runs came across, the Tigers got their chance in the fifth when Kaden Peer managed to reach third on a Mateo Serna single, but the chance was thwarted by South Carolina who quickly got out of the jam.

Down to their final three outs, Blaize Ward reached base for Mizzou, and misfielded bunt from Kam Durnin put the winning run on first with no outs. But the Tigers were caught stealing, and a strikeout and a deep fly out ended any hope for a walk off.

Up Next - Mizzou will be back at Taylor stadium for the finale against South Carolina. First pitch for the game is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 11.
