Mizzou standout tabbed SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

A blazing hot week at the dish earned a Mizzou true freshman a nod from the Southeastern Conference.

On Monday, Tiger infielder Blaize Ward was named the SEC's Co-Freshman of the Week, following MU's big series upset over No. 24 Kentucky in Lexington. In that series victory, the Arkansas native hit .667 (6-for-9) with a pair of RBI and two multi-hit games, including a 3-for-3 performance in the series-clinching win over UK on Sunday.

Over the course of the last week, in games against Kentucky and a clash against Kansas, Ward ended up hitting .615 (8-for-13) with a triple, six RBI and a pair of runs scored on the week, notching three multi-hit games.

The big week just adds to the tremendous debut season he's been having for head coach Kerrick Jackson. Ward currently leads all Tigers with a scorching .500 batting average (15-for-30) in SEC play with seven RBI and four runs scored. Overall, the he holds a team-best .366 average (26-for-71) with five doubles, a triple, 19 RBI and 15 runs scored, getting on base at a team-leading .477 clip.

Up next - Ward and Mizzou will return to Taylor Stadium to host Missouri State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.
