Beyond the Game: Rock Bridge shortstop Asher Schulze

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Rock Bridge shortstop Asher Schulze went 'Beyond the Game' with ABC 17 Sports Director Nathalie Jones, as the senior is primed to have a big season, coming off of an all-conference and all-district campaign in 2025.

You can find the full transcript of the interview below.

Nathalie Jones: "What's up? We're at Rock Bridge High School going beyond the game with Rock Bridge baseball star Asher Schulze. Asher, all-conference, all-district player last year, you guys had 30 wins. What led to the success that you guys had?

Asher Schulze: "Uh, I think it was a mix of a lot of different things. Uh, really good preseason that was led by Coach [Justin] Towe, it was his last year, last year. And then we had a lot of of older talent, so most of our roster was seniors and we just had a really good bond and enjoyed playing together."

Nathalie: "For you specifically, I mean, when did you start falling in love with with this game and start getting really good at it, right?"

Asher: "Yeah, I mean, so ever since I was little, I had an older brother, so i was always competing against him and then just playing with friends from an early age, just as i got older, i just enjoyed it more and more."

Nathalie: "Yeah, who did you look up to in your baseball journey? Was it your older brother? Was it someone else?"

Asher: "Yeah, so it's actually one of my dad's buddies. His name's Mark Woolery. He's a really, really big just baseball fanatic, I'd say. So, I kind of just shared the passion with him."

Nathalie: "You're committed to the State Fair [Community College] you going there. I mean, what did you like about that program and joining them?"

Asher: "Yeah, so it was really close to home, they've had some recent success, I really liked campus. They're getting a new baseball field, just a lot of things that went into that."

Nathalie: "Well, some fun stuff here. I mean, what's been your favorite walk-up song? I'm always curious to hear that."

Asher: "Yeah, so actually freshman year, I didn't get to pick my walk-up song, so it was a random one. It was All-Star. I'm sure you know that song, but this year I am going to do Pimp Juice by Nelly, so kind of, kind of niche, and I look forward to having that play."

Nathalie: "Breaking news right here on ABC 17. What do you like about this year's team heading into the season, obviously big year for you, your final one."

Asher: "Yeah, so we have a new head coach, Coach Bazat. I'm really excited to see what we can do this year. He's led preseason very good, everybody's had a lot of fun, so yeah, just excited to play."

Nathalie: "Asher, thank you so much. You guys just went Beyond the Game with Asher Schulze. Thanks for joining us."
