Mizzou softball goes 2-2 in first home weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
After splitting the action against Drake and Miami (Ohio), on Saturday, the Tiger softball team ended its first home weekend with a 2-2 mark in the Mizzou Invitational.
Those two wins move head coach Larissa Anderson and company to 7-13 overall in 2026.
Saturday's action felt very similar to Friday's, as MU managed to start the day with a big, high-scoring win over one team and then went cold in a loss in the night cap to another.
In coach Anderson and company's penultimate game of the Mizzou Invitational, the Tiger bats were on fire. Mizzou beat Drake 10-2 in a game that saw five players drive in a run. Junior first baseman Abby Hay led the charge at the dish going 2-for-3 and driving in the co-team high three RBI. Freshman pitcher Abby Carr was the other MU player to drive in three runners, as she lifted up her first home run at the Mizzou Softball Stadium in the first inning and then drove in another run on an RBI double to right field in the second.
Mizzou dominated every facet of that game, including in the circle. Starter Marissa McCann threw a complete game, fanning 12 Bulldog batters. She only made one mistake in her entire outing, allowing a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
With that win in hand, the Tigers prepared for the tournament finale against the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks, the same team that beat them in Friday night's night cap.
It was a different day, similar story for Coach Anderson's team, though. After their high-scoring win against Drake, the bats went cold against Miami (Ohio), as two runs on just four hits.
Those pair of runs came courtesy of the bottom of the order. Freshman Linny Ramsey hit a solo home run in the second inning to cut Mizzou's deficit to just one run and then Tolton alum Madison Uptegrove plated Hay on an infield sacrifice fly in the third inning. But, by the time Uptegrove brought that second run home, the Redhawks had already plated six runs, which was deficit Mizzou could never dig itself out of.
Pitcher Cierra Harrison was charged with that loss, in the circle. She allowed four earned runs on five hits through 2.1 innings of work. In relief, Carr and pitcher Nathalie Touchet allowed four more runs in the second-straight loss to Miami (Ohio).
Up next - Mizzou will dive into SEC action. The Tigers will open up conference play on the road against Florida for a three-game series. First pitch in game one is set for 12 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 7.
