Turnovers plague the Tigers as Mizzou falls to Auburn
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
In their return to Norm Stewart Court, head coach Kellie Harper and the Women's basketball team fell to Auburn, 71-58.
The visitors started the game on fire from the first possession, jumping out to a 10-4 lead after scoring on all of their first four possessions. That six point lead only grew as Auburn got up by 10 while holding Mizzou to just eight first quarter points.
Grace Slaughter lead a charge in the second half scoring nine of the team's 19 in the second 10 minutes. Despite trailing by 10 at the half, MU shot more than 60 percent from the field. The hot shooting continued into the third quarter with Mizzou scoring 21 points on 75 percent shooting. But Auburn managed to extend its lead by notching 23 of its own. The visitors only built on their lead, eventually taking the 13-point victory.
Slaughter lead the Tigers with 19 points on the night, while shooting an impressive 7-9 from the field. Jordana Reisma made her return to the court for the first time since Feb. 1, and notched 10 points on a near perfect shooting night. Despite the efficient scoring, Mizzou had 31 turnovers over the 40 minutes, which was the major contributing factor in the loss to Auburn.
Up Next - Mizzou will travel to face No. 7 LSU on Sunday Feb. 22, with tip off scheduled for 3 p.m.
