Slaughter’s 29 not enough to lift Mizzou women’s basketball past Florida

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

After a dominant showing against Arkansas for their first SEC win of the year, head coach Kellie Harper and company couldn't pick up a second in a row as they fell to Florida 89-71.

The Gators entered the game hot from the start, shooting nearly 63 percent in the opening eight minutes. Shannon Dowell and Grace Slaughter were the only Tigers to score in the quarter, making just two field goals, falling behind 26-8.

Beyond the opening stage, the two teams were evenly matched, scoring the same number of points in each of the remaining three quarters. Slaughter added 12 of her own in just the second quarter, and 15 more in the second half to lead both teams in scoring with 29, while going 11-17 from the field and 4-7 from three. Dowell ended the day just behind with 23, combining with Slaughter for 52 of Mizzou's 71 points.
