Mizzou women’s basketball falls short of comeback against Illinois

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

MU suffered its third loss of the season at the Braggin' Rights Showdown 70-62.

Illinois defeated Mizzou to drop the Tigers to 9-3, ending the team's five game win streak.

"I'm disappointed for our players because they gave themselves a chance to win. Because of that, I'm sitting up here extremely proud of them," head coach Kellie Harper said. "I think going into this game, if you'd have said, 'hey, it's a two-point game with about one minute left,' I'd have felt pretty good about it."

The Fighting Illini jumped out to an early lead in the first half, but Harper's ladies rallied back at the start of the second half to shrink the gap back down to three heading into the fourth.

Grace Slaughter led the team in scoring with 19, with guard Lisa Thompson also getting into double figures off the bench.
