Mizzou cross country picks up four all-region honors at Midwest Championships

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

In the second postseason race of the season, Mizzou's cross country teams traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma, for the Midwest Championships.

The No. 27 women finished in fourth place, and the men came home in seventh. Both teams netted a pair of all-region finishers. Freshman Monica Wanjiku crossed the finish line in sixth to be the lone Tiger to secure an automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships at Gans Creek.

Her teammate and fellow first-year Kobi Walker was the second member of the women's squad to place in the top 25. Wanjiku and Walker were the first tigers to earn All-Midwest recognition since 2021. The remaining three scorers for the team all finished in the next 40 seconds, bringing home a team score 141, just behind Oklahoma State, Northwestern, and Iowa State.

On the men's side, Senior Drew Rogers was the first man across in black and gold, finishing with a time of 30:48.6, good enough for 18th. He also picked up his second consecutive all-region medal. Five seconds behind him, freshman Elijah Limo came 21st to earn all-midwest recognition in his meet debut.

The remaining men's team helped score 222 points to finish seventh. This is their best finish since 2012, and is the first time the men have had two all-region recipients since 2008.
