Mizzou wrestling opens season with trio of wins at the Missouri Duals
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The 2025-26 season opened on Sunday for the Missouri wrestling team at the Hearnes Center. The Tigers competed in the Missouri Duals, where they picked up two shutout wins and added another victory by more than 30 points to start the season 3-0.
For the first time in program history, Mizzou squared off against Drury. Six tigers won their matches via fall, with four of them doing so inside of two minutes. Senior Evan Bates picked up a seventh victory by technical fall, and the final three bouts were all wins at full time in favor of the home side. All totaled, the tigers picked up their first win of the season in shutout fashion 51-0.
In the second leg, Mizzou faced Maryville, where it added two more pins to its daily total and four more technical falls. The tigers' lone loss of the day came at the 174 weight class against the Saints. Despite that, the win was still black and gold, picking up the last three wins to defeat Maryville 41-3.
Central Methodist was the final dual of the three, where M-U continued to show its dominance. The team picked up four wins by fall, bringing the day's total to 14. Juniors Zeke Seltzer and J Conway picked up major decisions to finish the day, with Mizzou claiming another three by decision. Add in another technical fall victory by Evan Bates and it makes a second sweep of the day as the tigers prevail 46-0.
Five Mizzou athletes finished the day 3-0: Graduate Max Mayfield, Senior Evan Bates, Junior Zeke Seltzer, Junior J Conway, and Sophomore Jarrett Stoner.
