Former Mizzou center returns to Columbia as a graduate assistant

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Former Mizzou big man Mabor Majak is returning to Columbia.
On Sunday, a team spokesperson confirmed with ABC 17 that the 7-foot-2 center is set to join head coach Dennis Gates' coaching staff as a graduate assistant. This comes after he played for Gates at both Cleveland State and Mizzou.
Majak did not spend the 2024-25 campaign with the Tigers, though. He ended up transferring to Coastal Carolina, following two seasons in the black and gold. In his senior campaign, in 2023-24, he appeared in 23 games and totaled 12 points, 28 rebounds and five blocks in an average of 6.9 minutes per game.
In his one season with the Chanticleers, he played in 32 games. The center averaged 0.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 7.5 minutes per game.
The 2024-25 campaign was the only season in his college career that Majak did not spend with Coach Gates. But, it didn't take him long to find his way back.
Mizzou will look to make its third NCAA Tournament appearance under Gates, after ending the 2024-25 season with 22 wins, a sixth-place finish in the SEC and a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
