Renegades fall short of snapping losing streak in close loss to Naturals
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Jefferson City Renegades came close to snapping a four-game losing streak, on Thursday night, but a costly error late in the game brought in a run for Northeast Missouri and put the game just out of reach. The Renegades ended up losing to the Naturals 2-1 to extend the skid to five games.
Northeast Missouri got on the board in the first inning with an RBI double off the bat of A. Alton. However, after that run crossed home plate, Hickman alum Kyle Hayne settled into his start on the hill. He gave up just that one earned run on one hit, but struck out five batters over the course of five innings.
Haynes' outing opened up the door for his teammates to tie up the ball game and designated hitter William Bachman did just that in the fifth inning. The Fargo, North Dakota native lifted a solo shot over the fence in left field to knot the ball game up at one run apiece.
However, trouble came in the eighth inning. Jefferson City's own Carson Rustemeyer couldn't hold off the Naturals', as Northeast Missouri plated the game-winning run on an error by the Renegades' third baseman.
Up next - head coach Mike DeMilia and company will look to snap the five-game losing streak, as they get back into MINK league action. Jefferson City will stay home to host the Nevada Griffons on Saturday, July 5 at Ernie Vivion Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
