Cardinals fall short of a sweep against the Dodgers

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
The L.A. Dodgers' bats finally woke up in the series finale against St. Louis. After plating just one run across 18 innings at Busch Stadium, the Dodgers salvaged one win in the series loss, 7-3 on Sunday.
Despite the loss, St. Louis did still win the series over one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. The birds on the bat now sit at 36-29 overall and hold second place in the National League Central, just 4.0 games behind the Chicago Cubs.
Skipper Oli Marmol and company continue to prove that they can compete with just about anybody. Through the 2025 campaign, STL has gone 22-15 against teams with a .500 record or better.
However, on Sunday, the Cardinals fell short of what would have been a statement sweep over the Dodgers. St. Louis struggled to get anything going against pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who earned his first win of the 2025 season. He allowed just one earned run on six hits through five innings, while fanning seven batters.
It was also a big day for former Cardinal Tommy Edman, as he drove in a team-high three runs on two hits.
Overall, the Red Birds actually out-hit Los Angeles 11-10. But, the team was not effective enough with runners in scoring position, going just 3-for-10.
St. Louis starter Michael McGreevy was charged with the loss in the series finale. After being recalled from Triple-A Memphis, he gave up four runs through six frames.
Up next - the Cardinals will continue their homestand, hosting the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, June 9. First pitch at Busch Stadium is slated for 6:45 p.m.
