Contract details: Mizzou basketball general manager set to start at $100,000 salary

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Just days after the Mizzou men's basketball team named veteran coach Tim Fuller the first general manager in program history, ABC 17 obtained his contract via records request.

In the first-of-its-kind position at MU, Fuller is set to start at a $100,000 salary. The contract states that that will boost to $250,000 on April 1, 2026.

Fuller will receive standard university benefits, but will have some opportunities to hit some incentives, as well. For example, if the Tigers win the SEC Tournament Championship, he would be awarded 2% of his base salary. You can find a full list of incentives for Mizzou's first-ever general manager below.

  • SEC Regular Season Champions: 1% of base salary
  • SEC Tournament Champions: 2% of base salary
  • NCAA Tournament - First Round: 4% of base salary
  • NCAA Tournament - Sweet 16: 8% of base salary
  • NCAA Tournament - Elite Eight: 10% of base salary
  • NCAA Tournament - Final Four: 12% of base salary
  • NCAA Tournament - National Champion: 15% of base salary

The contract also listed what would happen if Mizzou fired Fuller. If he does not perform his duties, as detailed in his contract, then he will be given 14 days to correct his performance. If he fails to do so, then Mizzou will be able to fire him immediately. In the event that Fuller is fired for not living up to the standard of the general manager position, then MU Athletics will not be liable to pay any of his salary or benefits.

However, the terms will change if Mizzou parts ways with Fuller or he decides to leave the athletic department.

If Fuller decides to leave the Columbia before the end of his contract, then he will have to pay liquidated damages to Mizzou. Those will be calculated by taking his base salary at the time of termination and dividing by 12 and then multiplying that amount by the number of months remaining in his term at the time of termination. But if he leaves for a general manager position in the NBA, he will not be liable for those liquidated damages.

On the flip side, if Athletic Director Laird Veatch decides to get rid of Fuller without cause before the end of his contract, then MU will pay Fuller all earned but unpaid base salary and incentives, as well as liquidated damages.

Fuller's contract also listed the responsibilities of Mizzou's first-ever general manager.

  • Devote efforts
  • Support and supervise and properly treat student-athletes
  • Dedicate effort
  • Promote an atmosphere of compliance
  • Appearances
  • Promote academic excellence
  • Develop programs
  • File annual report
  • Responsibility to cooperate

In addition to those expectations, Mizzou detailed what it expects its new general manager not to do, as well.

  • Engage in business
  • Commit a violation
  • Condone a violation of NCAA legislation, conference rules, university policy, Missouri or federal law, including criminal law
  • Receive other benefits
  • Pursue other employment opportunities without notice
  • Discredit the university
  • Enter into agreements
  • Fail to properly report on discrimination, harassment or sexual harassment
  • Fail to cooperate
  • Gambling
  • Hazing
  • Fail to fulfill duties

Fuller's contract with Mizzou began on June 1 and will run through April 30, 2027.
