William Woods names new men’s basketball coach

A familiar face is returning to Fulton.
On Monday, William Woods Athletics announced that Owls alum and former men's basketball assistant coach Andrew Green is returning to campus to serve as the head coach of the men's hoops program. The change in leadership comes after former head coach Jordan Ashton left Fulton to take the head coaching job at Division II Purdue University Northwest.
Green was an assistant coach for William Woods for two seasons, from 2012 to 2014. In his first stint with the Owls, he oversaw quite a few things for the program, including academic oversight for all players.
"My family and I are very excited to call Fulton home again," Green said in a press release. "William Woods checked all of the boxes for us. The campus environment, success of the men's basketball program and overall excitement surrounding athletics all played a part in our decision."
Green spent the last four seasons on staff at American Midwest Conference (AMC) rival Columbia College, where he helped the Cougars record a 90-36 overall record and back-to-back NAIA National Tournament appearances. CC was a force to be reckoned with in-conference. In fact, the Cougars swept the AMC regular-season and tournament championships in the 2022-23 season, while making conference tournament final appearance in the 2021-22 campaign, as well.
Prior to his time in Columbia, Green was an assistant coach at NJCAA Division I State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri. He also has previous head coaching experience at South Pudget Sound Community College in Olympia, Washington. In the 2019-20 campaign, the Clippers ended up 23-6 overall and 12-2 in conference play. Green led that team to an Elite Eight run in postseason play, before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
The Marceline, Missouri native also served as the head coach at Westminster in Fulton. Under his guidance, the Blue Jays won two-straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship, while also qualifying for the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2016-17.
Green will look to build off of a season where the Owls finished 29-3 overall and 17-1 in conference play.
