Royals bats go silent in series loss to Tigers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Royals lost their second-straight series, courtesy of a lackluster performance at the dish in rubber match action against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. KC fell 1-0 to surrender the series to the Tigers, who hold the most wins in all of Major League Baseball.
It didn't take much for Detroit to grab a win at Kauffman Stadium. In fact, the only scoring fans saw all day came in the third inning, when Zach McKinstry scored on a wild pitch from Kris Bubic. Although that one mistake did end up costing Kansas City the ball game, Bubic ended up with a pretty good outing on the hill, on Sunday. He went for 7.0 innings and allowed just that one earned run on four hits, while punching out nine Tiger batters.
The problems were not on the mound for skipper Matt Quatraro, but instead in a familiar area: at the plate.
The Royals went 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position (RISP), as the team is in last place in all the MLB in RISP this season. Although KC did managed to out-hit Detroit 9-5, it could never capitalize when it needed to most.
Up next - Kansas City will head to the east side of the state to face the St. Louis Cardinals in a three-game set. First pitch is slated for 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3.
