COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou soccer coach Stefanie Golan is enlisting some more help, ahead of the 2025 campaign.

On Tuesday, the team announced that it is adding former West Georgia associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Renee Horton to the coaching staff. Horton will served as Golan's associate head coach.

"Renee is a valuable addition to our program," Golan said in a press release. "We were looking to add a seasoned veteran in this role, and Renee has a wide range of experience on both the coaching side and analytics side of the game. She will be primarily focused on the attacking side of the ball on the field and will also have a heavy hand in recruiting, scouting, and analytics amongst other duties. Renee has an incredible ability to foster deep and meaningful relationships with student-athletes and truly help them maximize their potential in all facets of life."

The Tigers' newest coach also has experience at the SEC level, as she served as a video analyst at Georgia for two seasons, before joining the West Georgia program. In her time with the Bulldogs, she helped guide UGA to a combined 26-10-9 overall record and a couple of trips to the NCAA Tournament. She also coached two All-Americans, four All-Southeast Region Team players and a pair of SEC Co-Freshman of the Year award winners.

Before her time in Athens, she also made stops at USC, Xavier and Lander University. In three seasons with the Musketeers, she helped the program earn its first NCAA Tournament win since 2019. In that season, Xavier ended up with a school-best 17 wins and claimed the Big East regular-season title and won the conference championship. The Musketeers set program records for shutouts in 2019 and also tallied the second-most assists and points in a single-season.

Horton played a role in coaching the Xavier's second-ever All-American, a First Team All-Conference member and the Big East Midfielder of the Year honoree.

She's no stranger to NCAA Tournament berths, as she also helped USC to that stage in her time in Los Angeles.

Horton played collegiately at USF, where she appeared in 63 matches with 42 starts. She and her team posted a 37-27-6. Horton also played softball for the Bulls, primarily as a pinch runner. After she graduated, she played three years in the W-League.
