Mizzou baseball gets trounced by Mississippi State in 14th run-rule loss of the year

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

With the Mizzou baseball team's third-straight loss to Mississippi State, on Saturday, the Tigers finished the 2025 regular-season with the worst record in modern Southeastern Conference history since the league shifted to a 30-game slate in 1996.

MU lost to MSU in run-rule fashion, 12-1 in seven innings, on senior day at Taylor Stadium. The loss marked skipper Kerrick Jackson and company's 14th run-rule loss of the 2025 season. With the finale in the books, the Tigers finished the regular-season with a 16-38 overall record and a 3-27 mark in SEC play.

For the third-straight game, Mississippi State set the tone in the very first inning. In total, the Tigers gave up 14 runs in the first frame against the Bulldogs, six of which came on Saturday.

Mizzou starter Josh McDevitt couldn't seem to settle in against the Mississippi State attack. In just 0.2 innings of work, he yielded six earned runs on six hits to get his team into an early hole. In that first inning, Bulldog star Hunter Hines set the tone with his fourth home run of the weekend to grab an early two-run lead.

From there, MSU posted runs in all but three of the seven innings played on Saturday.

Overall, the Bulldogs hit 15 homers and plated 50 total runs in three games against the Tigers, out-hitting the home team 47-18 in those three days.

On Saturday, Jackson threw six, different pitchers up on the mound, but McDevitt was handed the loss to remain winless in 2025.

Up next - Mizzou will look to extend its season in the first round of the SEC Tournament, which will begin on Tuesday, May 20 in Hoover, Alabama.
