Chiefs pick up an offensive tackle with No. 32 overall pick in NFL Draft

GREEN BAY, Wis. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Chiefs hope to have fulfilled one of their biggest needs of the offseason with their first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
On Thursday night, general manager Brett Veach and company selected former Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons with the No. 32 overall pick, to wrap up day one of the action in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman likely would have gone even higher in this draft, if not sustaining a seasson-ending injury that limited him to just six games in the 2024 season. Despite that injury, he still managed to get named honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference by league's coaches.
He played in 19 games for the Buckeyes, all of which came at left tackle.
Before his time at Ohio State, Simmons started his career at San Diego State, where he started in 31-consecutive games. Out of those starts, he played 19 at left tackle and 13 at right tackle.
Simmons came out of high school as a four-star prospect and was rated a Top-20 guard in the 2021 recruiting class by both ESPN and 247Sports.
KC quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared pretty pleased with Veach and company's first pick, as he posted a sunglasses emoji just moments before the pick became public. You can find Mahomes' post below.

Left tackle was a big problem-area for head coach Andy Reid and his team through the 2024 season. The Chiefs picked up Kingsley Suamataia in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but it didn't work out how they'd hoped. As a result, Wayna Morris stepped into the role for a bit, before guard Joe Thuney took over the role to end the season.
The Chiefs selected Simmons, after swapping picks with the Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City went from having the No. 31 overall pick to the No. 32 selection. In addition to grabbing Simmons, KC also gained a fifth round pick from the Eagles.
