Tiger football adds former Iowa tight end with Mizzou ties

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz brought on a tight end with a Mizzou legacy for his first addition from the transfer portal in the 2025 spring window.

Former Iowa tight end Gavin Hoffman committed to the Tigers on social media, on Friday morning. He was a three-star recruit out of high school and paid multiple visits to Columbia, before landing in Iowa City. However, he's still pretty familiar with Mizzou country, as he's the cousin of former MU women's basketball stars Sophie and Lindsey Cunningham.

The Overland Park, Kansas native did not see any game action in his one season with the Hawkeyes, as he earned a redshirt year. As a result, he will have four years of eligibility remaining.

In high school, Hoffman earned first-team all-state and all-conference honors in his senior year. He was an offensive player of the year finalist in 2023 and was also recognized as an all-state honorable mention and second-team all-conference selection as a junior. The 6-foot-5, 237-pound tight end helped his Blue Valley Northwest team advance to the state playoffs in 2021, as he holds the school records in receiving touchdowns.

He'll be joining a tight end room that is highlighted by St. Louis native Brett Norfleet, who will enter his junior season in 2025. Coach Drinkwitz also leaned on tight end Jordon Harris a bit, in the 2024 season, while Drink added that he was very impressed with redshirt-freshman Jude James through spring ball. Needless to say, there will be plenty of competition for Hoffman.
