Royals snap Guardians’ 5-game winning streak in series finale

CLEVELAND, Ohio (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Royals managed to avoid surrendering a sweep to Cleveland on Sunday, as KC snapped the Guardians' five-game winning streak with a 4-2 win at Progressive Field.
With the victory, skipper Matt Quatraro's team got back to the .500 mark, 8-8, on the season.
Pitcher Cole Ragans was phenomenal in the series finale against Cleveland. The left-hander threw for 7.2 innings and struck out 10 batters, while walking none. He only allowed one earned runs on four hits to get his first win on the mound in 2025.
There were heroics on the hill from start to finish, though. Closer Carlos Estevez earned his fifth save this year, which is ties for third most in all of the MLB. After the Guardians got on base with a single to right field to start the ninth inning, Estevez struck out the next three batters he faced for the win.
At the dish, both Kyle Isbel and Maikel Garcia led the charge. Isbel was perfect in the win going 3-for-3 with one run. Garcia came up in a crucial moment for KC, as he knocked a two RBI double into right field to take the lead in the fifth inning. He ended up going 3-for-4 on the day.
Catcher Salvador Perez lifted up his first home run of the season in a critical moment, as well, to tie up the ball game in the fourth.
Up next - the Royals will continue with their road swing and face the New York Yankees on Monday, April 14. First pitch at Yankee Stadium is set for 6:05 p.m.
