The Mizzou quarterback competition just got narrowed down a bit.

A team spokesperson confirmed with ABC 17 that Tiger quarterback Drew Pyne is set to throw his name into the transfer portal after one year in Columbia.

The graduate student will now be looking for his fourth home, where he can play in his sixth and final year of college football. He transferred to MU from Arizona State ahead of the start of the 2024 campaign, but played for Notre Dame before that, as well.

Although starting quarterback Brady Cook was the go-to guy for head coach Eli Drinkwitz, Pyne did get some playing time in the 2024 season when Cook went down with a couple of injuries. He, notably, got into the Tigers' games against Auburn, Alabama and Oklahoma in Cook's absence, ending the year throwing for 391 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Mizzou fans will remember Pyne for his heroics in the first win over Oklahoma at Faurot Field since 2011, in November. Down by one score with two minutes left in the game, the quarterback led his team on an eight-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to tie the game up at 23 points apiece, which ultimately led to defensive end Zion Young's scoop-and-score game-winner just moments later.

The news of Pyne's departure does narrow down Coach Drinkwitz's quarterback competition a bit. If he wants to go with experience, he will be picking between returner Sam Horn and Penn State transfer Beau Pribula. Drinkwitz does has true freshman quarterback Matt Zollers on the roster, as well.
