Ole Miss softball secures series win over Mizzou in doubleheader sweep

KMIZ

OXFORD, Miss. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou softball hasn't fully cracked the code on Southeastern Conference action, yet, in 2025. No. 21 Ole Miss locked up the series win over the Tigers with a sweep in Sunday's doubleheader action.

The Rebels shut out MU in game one, 1-0, and followed that up with a 5-3 win over head coach Larissa Anderson and company to clinch the series. With the pair of losses, Mizzou has an 18-18 overall record and a 1-7 mark in conference play.

Game one vs. Ole Miss

Ole Miss rode the arm of true freshman Miali Guachino to victory in the series opener. The SEC's strikeout leader was dominant against the Tigers, throwing in her 10th complete game this season and racking up nine strikeouts. She didn't allow Mizzou to score a single run and only allowed two hits in her sixth shutout effort of the season.

That loss marked just the second time that MU had been shutout in 2025 and those shutouts came in back-to-back games.

It was an unfortunate result for Coach Anderson's ace, sophomore pitcher Marissa McCann. The right-hander pitched a good 5.1 innings for the Tigers, only allowing one earned run on seven hits. She also struck out four batters and came up with some big defensive plays.

There wasn't any run support to back up McCann's effort, as she was handed the loss today to drop to 7-7 on the year.

Game two vs. Ole Miss

Mizzou saw a whole lot more offense in game two of the doubleheader. In fact, it was a home run derby down in Oxford, Mississippi.

Three Tigers hit a home run in the two-run loss to Ole Miss, as Taylor Ebbs got the scoring started with her sixth dinger of the season in the second inning.

However, every time Coach Anderson's team found a way to take a lead, the Rebels dialed up a response. In the home half of the second inning, Lexie Brady took pitcher Cierra Harrison's pitch deep and over the wall to tie the game up at one. Then, one inning later, Ole Miss took the lead off of another home run from Mackenzie Pickens.

In total, MU and Ole Miss combined for six home runs, on Sunday. The two teams did go punch-for-punch, but the Rebels just managed to land a couple more hits than Mizzou did.

Ebbs and Julia Crenshaw each knocked out solo home runs for MU, which gave their team a lead in a critical game two matchup. Jefferson City native Kara Daly came up with the third homer of the day for her team, but it came too little too late in the seventh inning.

Harrison got the start in the circle for Anderson and ended up throwing for 4.1 innings. In that time, she allowed two earned runs on five hits.

Taylor Pannell came in in relief for Harrison and actually ended up getting charged with the loss to drop to 4-4 on the year. She allowed three earned runs in one inning of work.

Up next - Mizzou will look to avoid getting swept by the Rebels on Monday, March 31. First pitch in the series finale is slated for 6 p.m.
