Columbia College baseball sweeps doubleheader action against UHSP
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia College baseball team continued to bring the boom at the plate, on Friday, as the Cougars swept the University of Health Science and Pharmacy (UHSP) in doubleheader action.
CC came into the matchup against the Eutectics averaging nearly 10 runs per game this season. Unsurprisingly, the Cougars plated a combined 25 runs in two games on Friday, beating USPH 9-6 in game one and 16-2 in game two.
Columbia College out-hit the Eutectics 15-8 in the game one win. Jaden James and Brayden McGinnnis each led the charge at the plate. Both players went 4-for-4 with three RBIs apiece.
Layne Rutherford earned the win on the hill for the Cougars. He threw for 4.2 innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits. With the victory, he improved to 3-2 on the season.
In game two, Tyler Renn tallied the team-high four RBI, as eight Cougars managed to drive in runs in the dominating win over USHP.
Most of the damage happened in the fifth inning, when CC posted eight runs, courtesy of RBI knocks from Tyler Davis and Bradyn O'Neal, a three-run home run off the bat of Bailey Quint.
Hunter Hees earned the 'W' on the mound, as he went 3.0 innings in game two. He allowed two earned runs on five hits, while striking out three batters. He improved to 2-0 this season.
Up next - Columbia College will host USPH for another doubleheader on Saturday, March 29. First pitch in game one is slated for 1 p.m.
