Mizzou softball gets swept in Lexington on SEC opening weekend

KMIZ

LEXINGTON, Ky. (KMIZ)

Mizzou softball didn't start the gauntlet that is the Southeastern Conference the way that head coach Larissa Anderson would have hoped over the weekend. The Tigers entered Sunday's game against Kentucky looking to avoid a sweep, but could not hold off the Wildcat bats.

UK grabbed a 9-6 win over MU to drop Coach Anderson and her team to 11-13 overall in 2025 and 0-3 in conference play.

Kentucky utilized a three-run third inning and a four-run fourth inning to secure the series-sweeping win, on Sunday.

Sophomore Marissa McCann got the start in the circle in the series finale, but quickly gave up two earned runs in 2.1 innings of work. As a result, junior Taylor Pannell took over, but didn't have much better luck. The Lee's Summit native yielded four earned runs on one hit, with three walks and two strikeouts over her 1.0 inning of work. Pannell was charged with the loss to drop her to 1-1 on the season.

Sophomore Nathalie Touchet closed out the final two innings of action for Mizzou. She allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out one batter.

Despite the struggles on the mound, some Tigers did find success at the dish.

Rock Bridge alum Abby Hay got out of slump, as she hadn't registered a hit since Feb. 13. Nearly a month later, she connected on an RBI double to give her team a lead in the second inning. She also capped off her day with a home run in the sixth, as MU hoped to mount a comeback. The outing was a career-best for the Columbia, Mo. native, as she went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs, a walk, a double and that homer.

Catcher Julia Crenshaw also had a nice day at the plate, as she opened up the contest with her third leadoff home run of the season and sixth overall in 2025. She also added on an RBI double down the left field line in the sixth inning. She ended the day going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, a walk, a double and a home run. Crenshaw is now just three home runs away from matching her personal-best of nine.

Up next - Mizzou will get a short break from conference action, as Coach Anderson and company finally get to open up their home stadium. The Mizzou Invitational will start on March 13 and run through march 15.
