Mizzou baseball drops series opener to Binghamton in extras
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou baseball team hasn't opened up Taylor Stadium the way they would have hoped, in 2025. So far, the Tigers are 3-3 through the first portion of their 10-game homestand, following an 8-7 loss to Binghamton in 13 innings on Friday night.
With the loss to the Bearcats, head coach Kerrick Jackson and company now sit at 6-7 on the year.
Despite the loss, MU did manage to out-hit Binghamton, 14-13, but struggled to capitalize with runners in scoring position, going just 4-for-12 on the night. Overall, Mizzou left 13 runners stranded on base.
Peyton Basler led the charge at the dish for the Tigers. The junior went 3-for-4 and brought in a co-team high two RBI.
The struggles, once again, came on the hill for Jackson's group. Starter Ian Lohse went 5.1 innings and allowed five earned runs on five hits, along with six strikeouts. After he got taken off of the bump, the Mizzou went through four more pitchers. All but one of those guys who came in in relief let up a run to Bearcats.
Pitcher Xavier Lovett ended up getting handed the loss, for his 5.0 innings of work, which extended into extra innings. He did notch some clutch strikeouts in crunch time, but also allowed the game-winning run.
Up next - MU will continue the series against Binghamton on Saturday, March 8 in doubleheader fashion. Game one of two will begin at 1 p.m. at Taylor Stadium.
