The Mizzou baseball team sits at the .500 mark in the young 2025 season, after splitting the four-game series with Evansville over the weekend. Skipper Kerrick Jackson and company had a chance to grab a series victory, on Sunday, but a five-run rally in the ninth inning sealed a 9-5 win for the Purple Aces.

The Tigers found themselves in an early 4-1 hole early on and could never overcome it, despite the fact that all nine Mizzou batters registered at least one hit in the loss. Cayden Nicoletto led MU's 15-hit attack, going 4-for-5 on the afternoon.

Jackson's group had trouble figuring out Evansville's starting pitcher through six innings. Kevin Reed limited the Tigers to just two runs in his start, on Sunday. However, the real trouble came at the plate, courtesy of Purple Aces standout Harrison Taubert. He drove in five runs on a 3-for-5 outing, including three on a bases-loaded double in the ninth inning.

Mizzou had its best chance of the afternoon in the sixth inning, when Nicoletto sparked a hitting spree. The Tigers strung together three-straight hits in that inning and Tyler Macon managed to capitalize with an RBI double to cut MU's deficit to just two runs. However, a fly ball the center field ending the inning and the rally.

Opportunity arose again the seventh inning, when Peyton Basler and Trey Lawrence both managed to get on base to start the frame. With both of those guys in scoring position, Evansville reliever Drew Fieger struck out a batter and forced a liner to left field to strand both of those base runners and end the threat.

Up next - Mizzou will continue its 10-game homestand in a meeting with Southeast Missouri State on Tuesday, March 4. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
