Mizzou bats go cold late; Stetson notches a comeback win over the Tigers

CAGUAS, P.R. (KMIZ)
After a 9-7 loss to Stetson in Puerto Rico, on Sunday afternoon, Mizzou baseball wrapped up its season-opening tournament with a 1-2 record to start the year.
Head coach Kerrick Jackson's team was sitting with a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning of the loss, but, instead, the momentum changed drastically.
The Hatters got hot at the plate, bringing home five runs over the course of just two innings to take a 9-7 lead over MU. On the flip side, after the Tigers' hot start at the dish, the bats went cold, as the team registered just one hit in the final three innings.
As a result, Stetson ended up out-hitting the Tigers 13-11.
On the hill, Tiger freshman Brady Kehlenbrink was handed the loss, as he gave up two earned runs in just one inning of work. However, the entire pitching staff really struggled to limit the Hatters' attack at the plate. Junior starter Kadden Drew yielded four earned runs in the first four innings of action, while graduate transfer James Vaughn had similar struggles, allowing two earned runs in relief.
At the plate, six Tigers brought a run across home plate, with catcher Mateo Serna leading the charge. The Florida native ended up going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Up next - Jackson and company will continue the season-opening road swing with a road trip to the UCF on Wednesday, Feb. 19. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
