Slaughter’s 30-point night helps lift Mizzou women to first SEC win of the season
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A night of heroics led to the Mizzou women's basketball team's first SEC victory of the season, on Monday.
Sophomore guard Grace Slaughter put her Tiger team on her back against Mississippi State and contributed nearly half of Mizzou's points in the 78-77 win. That was, undoubtedly, a heroic performance.
But, the biggest moment of the night came as the clock hit zeroes. Down by one, Slaughter went and got the win for head coach Robin Pingeton and this team. The former Grain Valley star lobbed up a shot from the corner as the buzzer went off to cap off a career night, as she led the scoring attack.
Slaughter was unstoppable against the Bulldogs. She posted a career-best 31 points on 47 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent from 3-point range. The sophomore also grabbed six rebounds and one steal for her team.
Her performance was followed up by 14 points apiece for forward Laniah Randle and guard Ashton Judd.
Up next - Mizzou will look to put an upset on its resume with a road trip to No. 5 Texas on Thursday, Jan. 30. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. in Austin.
