Columbia College hoops sweeps the action in UHSP doubleheader
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Both the Columbia College men's and women's basketball teams recorded wins against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in Monday's doubleheader action at thee Southwell Complex.
The Cougar women met the Eutectics first in a dominating 99-60 win to improve to 17-0 on the year. Head coach Matt Moore and company are now just a couple of wins away from matching the best start in program history, when the Cougars went 19-0 in the 2015-16 campaign.
In addition to keeping their undefeated season alive, Moore and company also kept the home winning steak intact, as well. The Cougars currently ride a 39-game winning streak at the Southwell Complex, which dates back to 2022.
Senior Mallory Shetley led the scoring charge for Columbia College, in her third 20-point outing of the season. The Sullivan alum put up a game-high 20 points on 10-of-10 shooting, along with six rebounds. Mexico alum Mya Moore was Shetley with 16 points and seven boards in the win.
The local Mid-Missouri really was on display, as former Hickman star Ashtyn Klusmeyer was also one of the five Cougars to get into double-figures. She ended up with 13 points.
The men followed up that performance with a 96-54 win of their own to improve to 14-5 on the year. The victory puts head coach Tomas Brock and company on a two-game winning streak, as the Cougars remain just two games behind first-place Central Baptist in the American Midwests Conference standings.
Columbia College's win was highlighted by a big night for one of Montgomery County's own. Senior Carson Parker connected on a jumper with less than four minutes left to play join the 1,000 career points club.
Funny enough, his younger brother Collin Parker led the scoring attack for CC. He ended up with 23 points, along with six rebounds, while senior Harrison vickers ended up with 16. Two other Cougars ended up in double-digits in the win.
Up next - Columbia College will host another men's and women's doubleheader on Thursday, Jan. 23.
