Mizzou football picks up former West Virginia defensive standout; third commitment of the day

KMIZ

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz had a busy Monday in the transfer portal.

Former West Virginia linebacker Josiah Trotter became the third transfer portal player to commit and sign to play at MU, on Monday. He joins former Nebraska linebacker Miaki Gbayor and Northern Illinois safety Santana Banner as new additions on this Tiger roster.

Trotter is a big pickup for Coach Drink, as he was widely considered one of the best linebackers available in the transfer portal and he will have three years of eligibility to use in Columbia.

The son of two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler Jeremiah Trotter had a monstrous debut season with West Virginia. The freshman tallied a staggering 93 tackles and one interception in 2024. He added on two pass breakups, as well.

Football runs in Trotter's family, too. His dad, Jeremiah, passed the football gene down to both of his children. Josiah's older brother also made it the league, as he was a fifth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, after graduating from Clemson.

Both Trotter and Gbayor come to Mizzou at a critical time for the linebacker corps. Drinkwitz and company are losing three starters, after the Music City Bowl, as captain Chuck Hicks, Triston Newson and Corey Flagg Jr. are all out of eligibility.
