DESTIN, Fla. (KMIZ)

An off shooting night in Florida led to a 23-point loss for the Mizzou women's basketball team in the first game of the Emerald Coast Classic, on Monday night. Syracuse beat the Tigers 82-59 to drop head coach Robin Pingeton and company to 5-3 on the season.

MU shot just 32 percent from the field in the loss, as guard Grace Slaughter was the only Tiger player to get into double-digit scoring with a team-high 13 points.

Guard Laniah Randle also a solid outing for Coach Pingeton, as she was just one point and a few rebounds short of a double-double. The former Southern Illinois Carbondale standout ended the game with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Orange managed to beat out the Tigers in most statical categories to claim the win, on Monday. Syracuse out-shot Mizzou by 14 percent from the field and 13 percent from 3-point range. MU was out-rebounded 40 to 31 and Syracuse also narrowly won the turnover battle, forcing three more than Mizzou was able to.

Mizzou will have another shot to grab a win down in Destin, as the Emerald Coast Classic continues on Tuesday.

Up next - Coach Pingeton will face either Creighton or Wichita State on Tuesday. The tipoff time is still to be announced.
