Mizzou volleyball extends its winning streak to nine matches

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou volleyball team has now won nine-straight matches and sits in striking distance of first place in the Southeastern Conference standings, following a sweep over South Carolina at the Hearnes Center on Sunday.

The 3-0 win over the Gamecocks marks head coach Dawn Sullivan and company's first sweep since Oct. 11, when the Tigers took three over the Alabama Crimson Tide. With Sunday's win, MU improved to 17-5 overall and 8-2 in SEC action.

As of Sunday, the Kentucky Wildcats sit at the top of the conference, as the Wildcats are 10-2 in conference play. Sullivan and company are just a half a game back from that top seat.

Graduate student Mychael Vernon led the Tiger attack with a game-high 14 kills to compliment eight digs. Junior Janet deMarrais was right behind her in the box score, tallying 12 kills.

Up next - Mizzou will continue its home stand with a game against the No. 22 Florida Gators on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
