Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster returns to Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Chiefs reunited with wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, on Monday, after he was released from the Patriots earlier in August.
Smith-Schuster only previously spent one season in KC, but made it count. In 2022, he led all Chiefs wide receivers with 933 yards and three touchdowns on 78 receptions, on the team's way to a Super Bowl win over the Eagles.
Following that season, the receiver signed a three-year deal with New England. However, he didn't find that same success out east, as he tallied just 260 yards on 29 receptions in 11 games for the Patriots in 2023. It's also important to note that he dealt with some injuries while he was there.
It's a timely signing for head coach Andy Reid and company. The team continues to deal with some uncertainty in the wide receiver room. Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown is still dealing with a shoulder injury that may keep him out of the season opener against Baltimore on Sept. 5. Meanwhile, the NFL has not released any information about a possible suspension for wide receiver Rashee Rice, following his legal trouble in Dallas.
Smith-Schuster will join first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy, veteran Justin Watson and others in the receiver room for the 2024 season.
