Kansas City drops two-straight to Philadelphia to lose the series
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Philadelphia put 11 runs on Kansas City for the second-straight game to win the three-game series, 2-1. On Sunday, the Phillies beat the Royals 11-3 in an big offensive outing from Kyle Schwarber and Garrett Stubbs.
Schwarber had two hits and three RBI, while Stubbs had a career-best four hits en route to the eight-run win over KC.
Needless to say, it was not a banner day for the Royals pitching staff. Starter Seth Lugo allowed five runs on 11 hits in a little more than five innings of work. Relief pitcher Will Smith also let up five runs in his one inning of work.
All three of Kansas City's runs came off of solo homers from Bobby Witt Jr, Maikel Garcia and M.J. Melendez. Funny enough, Kansas City did manage to tally 10 hits on the Phillies, but went 0-11 with runners in scoring position.
Despite the series loss, Quatraro and company are still fighting for the first American League Wild Card spot in the ongoing playoff race. The Baltimore Orioles currently have a three-game lead over KC.
Up next - the Royals will hit the road to face the Cleveland Guardians on Monday, Aug. 26. First pitch is set for 12:10 p.m.
