Cardinals win second-straight series in rubber match against the Twins
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KMIZ)
The St. Louis Cardinals got back to .500 with a 3-2 win against the Minnesota Twins, on Sunday afternoon. The victory also marked the second-straight sereis win for skipper Oli Marmol and company and their fourth win in the last five games.
Lars Nootbaar played hero for the red birds, as he hit a two-run single with two outs in the ninth inning to, ultimately, win the game.
Cardinal rookie Victor Scott II was the only other guy to plate a run for STL. He hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to tie the ball game at one with the Twins.
Eric Fedde got the start on the hill for St. Louis and went 6.0 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits. He fanned seven batters in a solid start. However, Shawn Armstrong earned the win in relief, as he pitched 0.2 innings and didn't allow any runs or hits.
Cardinal closer Ryan Helsley registered his 40th save of the season, as well. He came in in the ninth inning and did not allow any runs and just one hit.
Up next - St. Louis will return home to host the Padres, who are coached by former skipper Mike Shildt. First pitch between STL and San Diego is set for 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26.
