Three Mizzou football players earn SEC preseason honors

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Three Tiger football standouts earned SEC preseason honors, on Thursday. Wide receiver Luther Burden and offensive linemen Armand Membou and Cam'Ron Johnson were all named to the 2024 Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team, ahead of kickoff against Murray State on Aug. 29.

Burden earned a spot on the first time, while Membou and Johnson were both placed on the third team.

The honor comes ahead of Burden's third season playing in Columbia, after the St. Louis native had a big sophomore campaign, in 2023. Through his second season in the black and gold, Burden led the Tigers in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions, finishing as a semifinalist for the prestigious Biletnikoff Award.

He also finished the 2023 season as a First Team All-SEC selection. The momentum is carrying into the 2024, as well. The receiver has made it onto multiple award watchlists, including the Biletnikoff, and was named a Preseason All-American by the Associated Press.

Membou is set for his second season in Columbia, after helping the offensive line finish as semifinalists for the Joe Moore Award lats season, which honors the most outstanding o-line units in the nation. The Lee's Summit native played a major role in helping MU's line limit opponents to just one or zero sacks in five different games.

Johnson also played a key role in the success of Mizzou's offensive line in 2023. The guard appeared in all 13 games for head coach Eli Drinkwitz, getting the starting nod 12 of those 13 times. The o-line allowed for the Tigers to rush for 200-plus yards on five occasions and even reached triple digits in rushing in all but one outing.

Overall, behind the offensive line's blocking, Mizzou tallied 500-plus yards of total offense for three consecutive games and five times total.

Burden, Membou, Johnson and the Tigers will kickoff the season on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Faurot Field. Game time against Murray State is set for 7 p.m.
