Cardinals and Royals fans will have to wait one more day for the I-70 showdown at Busch Stadium. On Tuesday, the two teams announced that game one has been postponed due to weather.
The game, which was originally schedule for 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, will be made up in a split doubleheader on Wednesday. St. Louis and Kansas City will match up in game one eat 12:45 p.m., followed by game two at 6:45 p.m.
Tickets for Tuesday night's game will be valid for the rescheduled game, at 12:45 p.m., on Wednesday.
It will be the first time the two Show-Me state teams have met in 2024, as both have taken very different tracks to get to the midway point of the season.
After a brutal start to the year, the St. Louis Cardinals caught fire in the month of June to sit at 48-42, as of July 9. Skipper Oli Marmol and company are in second place in the National League Central, just 4.5 games back from the first-place Milwaukee Brewers. The Red Birds now own Major League Baseball's best record since May 12, going 33-18, and are in second place in the NL Wild Card standings.
On the flip side, the Kansas City Royals struggled in the month of June after a hot start to the season. KC went 12-15 in June after a 35-24 start to 2024. Despite the rough patch, the club is still six games above the .500 mark, sitting at 49-43.
Skipper Matt Quatraro and company are now in third place in the American League Central, 8.5 games back from the first-place Cleveland Guardians. The Royals do have a bit of work to do in the AL Wild Card race at the midway point in the season, sitting 1.5 games out.
