Cardinals edge past the Cubs for rivalry series win
CHICAGO, Ill. (KMIZ)
All it took was a good swing from Pedro Pages and a solid outing from Miles Mikolas on the hill at Wrigley Field to secure a series win, on Sunday, as the Cardinals edged past the Cubs 2-1.
St. Louis' only two runs came off the bat of Pages in the second inning. The rookie sent a towering ball over the wall in left for a two-run homer and that ended up being the only offense that STL needed.
Red bird pitcher Miles Mikolas improved to 5-6 overall in 2024 with the win on Sunday. He pitched for 6.1 innings and allowed just one run on four hits, striking out five Chicago batters. It's Mikolas' second-straight good outing for his team, as he threw seven innings of one-hit ball in the loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.
With Sunday's rivalry win, skipper Oli Marmol's group improved to .500, 35-35 overall.
Up next - St. Louis will continue its road trip. The Cardinals will head southeast to meet the Miami Marlins. First pitch is at 5:40 p.m. CT on Monday, June 17.
