Mizzou softball infielder set to hit the transfer portal
COLUMIBA, Mo. (KMIZ)
On Tuesday afternoon, the Mizzou softball team saw its first bit of offseason news. Sophomore infielder Katie Chester announced that she will be entering the transfer portal with two years of eligibility left.
The news comes just days after the Tigers fell out of the postseason in a Super Regional loss to Duke.
The Missouri native started the 2024 season as head coach Larissa Anderson's primary designated player, but later transitioned into a pinch hitting role to end the season. Overall, she hit .239 with four home runs and 29 RBI in her final year in Columbia.
In a social media post, Chester said she is, "thankful to Missouri softball for the experience."
She came to MU as a freshman in 2023 and started in 40 of the 52 games she made an appearance in. The majority of her starts came at first base in that campaign. She hit .190 with 23 hits, nine runs, five doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.
As an infielder, Chester has primarily played at first and third base, however, there's consistent starters at both of those positions for Coach Anderson moving into 2025. Rock Bridge alum Abby Hay locked down the starting first base spot in her debut season in the black and gold, while Jefferson City native Kara Daly has been starting at third base since her freshman season, in 2022.
