No. 16 Mississippi State clinches series win against Mizzou
STARKVILLE, Miss. (KMIZ)
The No. 16 Mississippi State Bulldogs won their second-straight game over Mizzou on Friday evening to clinch the series win in the second-to-last game of the regular season. Tiger skipper Kerrick Jackson and company fell 8-2 to the dogs at Dudy Noble Field.
Mississippi State pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje improved to 8-1 overall in 2024. He allowed just two runs on three hits over seven innings of work. The sophomore retired the first 10 Mizzou hitters of the game, allowing the only two runs on solo homers from Helias alum Trevor Austin and Matt Garcia. In total, MU struck out 10 times against Cinjntje and one other State pitcher.
On a positive note, it is the third-straight game that Austin has lifted up a home run for the Tigers.
Garcia led his team with a 2-for-4 day at the dish, however, Mizzou only managed five hits in the loss. Notably, MU's Danny Corona saw his five-game hit streak come to an end with an 0-for-4 afternoon.
On the hill, Bryce Mayer fell to 2-7 overall with the loss. He tossed for four innings and allowed three runs on four hits.
Carter Rustad came in in relief, but allowed five runs, only two of which were earned, on six hits through the final four innings.
Up next - Mizzou will wrap up the 2024 season with one last game against the Bulldogs on Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. CT.
