No. 15 Mizzou softball captures game one win over South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. (KMIZ)
The No. 15 Mizzou softball team holds a one-game advantage over South Carolina, following Friday night's series opener. The Tigers shut out the Gamecocks 2-0 to secure the victory in game one of a three-game set.
Senior Laurin Krings got the start in the circle and improved to 12-7 in 2024. She tossed for five innings three-hit, shutout softball, as she fanned three batters. Freshman Marissa McCann came in in relief for the final two innings and earned her second save of the season.
At the dish, Jefferson City native Kara Daly got the Tigers going first, when she drove in Julia Crenshaw on an RBI single in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning, Katie Chester got in on the action, as well. The pinch hitter drove a single down the left field and advanced to second on a South Carolina throwing error, which also allowed Danielle Blackstun to score and give MU a two-run lead.
Up next - head coach Larissa Anderson and company will look to clinch the series victory in game two on Saturday, May 4. Due to inclement weather expected in Columbia, S.C., first pitch has been moved up to 11 a.m. CT.
