Cardinals fall one game short of sweeping the Mets

NEW YORK, N.Y. (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals couldn't complete a series sweep against the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon in Queens. The red birds fell 4-2 in extra innings, to end with a 2-1 series win.

Mark Vientos played hero for the Mets, as he lifted up a game-winning home run in the 11th inning on just his second day in the major leagues.

It was a low scoring affair, but St. Louis did take a 2-1 lead at the top of the 11th inning, courtesy of a Brendan Donovan single to right field to score Michael Siani.

Ironically, former Cardinal Harrison Bader delivered the game-tying blow for New York to start the home half of the 11th inning, with a single to center field. That Bader RBI was followed up by Vientos walk-off homer for the two-run win.

Up next - St. Louis will start up a new series on the road versus Detroit on Monday, April 29. First pitch is set for 5:40 p.m.
