Mizzou football set to open 2024 with third-straight Thursday night kickoff

The Mizzou football team announced on Tuesday that it will be opening up the 2024 season with the program's third-consecutive Thursday night kickoff at Faurot Field.
The Tigers' season opener versus Murray State has officially been moved from Saturday, Aug. 31 to Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
“Holding our season opener on the Thursday night of Labor Day weekend has been huge from an attendance standpoint the last two seasons and it has helped us create a big-time atmosphere from our fans and student section,” head coach Eli Drinkwitz said in a press release. “This doesn’t happen for us without Murray State and the SEC, so we appreciate both accommodating the change. I’m excited to keep this new tradition going with Mizzou football on Thursday night leading into Labor Day weekend the Missouri way.”
The 2024 opener will come after a historic fourth year under Coach Drinkwitz in Columbia. Mizzou went 11-2 overall in 2023 with a Top-10 postseason ranking and a win over Ohio State in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl in Dec.
The match up against Murray State will be MU's fifth weeknight game at Faurot Field since 2009. In the last two-straight Thursday openers, Drinkwitz and company are undefeated.
Mizzou Athletics said it will, once again, encourage fans to tiger stripe Memorial Stadium, as each section will alternate black and gold.
